In St. Mary’s County, a couple from Hollywood cashed in big, winning a $580,000 “Multi-Match" Maryland Lottery jackpot that was recently claimed, according to lotto officials.
This week, the wife recalled the time she realized they had won the jackpot, though she mused that she was home alone at the time and wanted to share the excitement with her husband, who she could not get on the phone right away.
“I tried to call him at work, but he wouldn’t answer right away,” recalls the wife. “I kept calling and calling until I finally got hold of him.”
Once he received the happy news, the husband simply said that “(he is) glad she got a hold of me,” with a laugh.
According to Maryland Lottery officials, the 60-year-old woman, a retired school bus driver, let the terminal pick the numbers for the winning $10 ticket, which was purchased at Weis Markets on H G Trueman Road in Solomons.
The pair said they are unsure what they'll do with their new financial windfall, though they may splurge on a vacation, saying simply “we will have to see what the future holds.”
That future holds an additional infusion of cash for Weis Markets in Calvert County, which received a $1,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the winning ticket, which was the fourth “Multi-Match” jackpot claimed in 2022.
“Multi-Match," which started in 2006, is Maryland’s in-state jackpot game with tickets sold only in Maryland.
On each $2 “Multi-Match” ticket, players receive three lines of six numbers from a range of 1 to 43. The Lottery draws six numbers from one to 43 every Monday and Thursday night. To win the jackpot, players must match all six numbers on any one line.
